Creativity through Nature: Dara’ang’s Natural Dyes from Local Flora in Pang Daeng Nai Village in Thailand

 
Living harmoniously with nature has been the practice of indigenous peoples worldwide. One such action is through the use of local flora for dyeing clothes. In the Chiang Dao District of Chiang Mai, Thailand, a village called Pang Daeng Nai is known for its continuous transmission of knowledge on natural dyes, whether through intergenerational dialogue or tourism, and environmental protection. Even though the history of natural-dye practice is uncertain due to migration from Myanmar to Thailand around four decades ago, Dara’ang people in the village have been able to successfully set up their own community enterprise in 2015 with support from different stakeholders. At present, they have the capacity to develop their natural-dyed products for sale, build community unity, empower women and youths, and create understandings about their indigenous group and living heritage.

UNESCO: Call for Experts on the diversity of cultural expressions in the digital environment

 
The Diversity of Cultural Expressions Entity of UNESCO is calling for experts and cultural operators with more than 10 years of experience in the digital environment and digital cultural sectors to be part of a reflection group on the diversity of cultural expressions in the digital environment. Selected experts will be invited to participate in two meetings to be held in May and September 2024.

Category 2 Centres explore future avenues for collaboration

 
Co-organized by the UNESCO Living Heritage Entity and the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe based in Sofia, Bulgaria, the meeting took place on September 5 and 6, 2023, at the Small Basilica in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The Roman Small Basilica of Philippopolis with its Roman mosaics dating back to the 5th century AD offered a very nice historic and festive backdrop to the meeting.

ICHCAP to Co-host Alternative Identities: Masks of ASEAN & Korea Exhibition in Seoul

 
A collaborative exhibition “Alternative Identities: Masks of ASEAN & Korea” will be co-hosted by ICHCAP (Director-General Ji-Sung Kim), the Oil Tank Culture Park (Director Lee Yong Nam) and Korea Foundation ASEAN Culture House (President Kim Ki Hwan) from September 22nd to November 12th at T5 Story Hall, the Oil Tank Culture Park. Prior to this exhibition, the main exhibition held in Busan (April 26th – July 23rd) at KF ASEAN Culture House was a great success with more than 40,000 audiences visited.
