Alternative Identities: Masks of ASEAN & Korea Exhibition to Be Held

 
Aspecial exhibition, Alternative Identities: Masks of ASEAN & Korea, will be co-hosted by ICHCAP (Director-General Ji-Sung Kim) and the Korea Foundation ASEAN Culture House (President Kim Ki Hwan) from April 26 (Wed) to July 23 (Sun) at KF ASEAN Culture House in Busan, South Korea. Recently, while the meaning of the second self in virtual reality, such as ‘bukkae’ and ‘avatar,’ has emerged and is attracting attention in Korea, interest in masks, a cultural heritage of humanity, is also increasing. This collaborative exhibition, featuring more than two hundred masks, costumes, and multimedia materials from Korea and 10 ASEAN countries, will unfold the interesting spiritual culture of Korea and ASEAN people in five sections.

ICHCAP, full-fledged promotion of cultural heritage ODA project with the Kyrgyz Republic

 
ICHCAP signed a Record of Discussion (RD) with the Kyrgyz National Committee for UNESCO on 11 April in Bishkek, for the new ODA project for vitalizing the traditional craft culture and tourism industry in the Kyrgyz Republic. The RD signing ceremony was held together with the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the field of culture between Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA) of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic. The MoU includes the following cooperative areas ▲ Development and management of cultural heritage ▲ Preservation, protection, and digitization of cultural heritage ▲ Capacity building in the field of cultural heritage, including restoration and conservation ▲ Strengthening of the utilization of cultural heritage for sustainable community development ▲ Development cooperation between the institutions and organizations in the field of cultural heritage, and ▲ Cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

T aking care of your hair and nails is very common nowadays. We can see many salons, manicure and pedicure shops around us. Women often visit these shops to take care of their hair and nails, decorating with different colors and patterns. However, cutting nails and hair in the Newar community (one of the castes in Nepal) is very different from regular nail and haircutting and has its own cultural significance.

The 5th annual International Jeonju ICH Award (JIAPICH): submission date ends on May 31, 2023.

 
T he Jeonju International Awards for Promoting Intangible Cultural Heritage (JIAPICH) started in 2019, originating from the bylaw passed in 2017 titled “Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage Jeonju Initiative” to protect our heritage. The JIAPICH stands to honor and give recognition to those individuals or groups and communities serving in the field of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The total prize pool of $30,000 USD is to be split among 1-5 individuals or groups. In 2022 Ifugao Museum of Philippines, The Serfenta Association of Poland, and Anca Raic of Bosnia Herzegovina was awarded the 2022 JIAPICH plaque.
