ICHCAP

Brochures on the ICH policies of UNESCO have been published in additional languages as part of an ICHCAP-supported project. The brochures, “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Development” and “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Gender,” have been recently translated into seven languages—Bhutani, Korean, Nepali, Sinhalese, Tamil, Thai, and Vietnamese.

UNESCO introduced the additional publications on its website on 2 October 2018. Last year, ICHCAP translated the original English, French and Spanish documents into Russian, Mongolian, Malay, Tongan, and Uzbek. As the result of the project, the brochures are now downloadable in fifteen languages on the UNESCO website.

ICHCAP will continue to support publication of the brochures in more languages. The center has been engaged in the multi-language publication project to promote public understanding of the UNESCO’s Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and ICH safeguarding. ICHCAP has led the project through exchange and cooperation with cultural agencies and related parties in the relevant countries. As the multi-language brochures are intended to further promote UNESCO’s ICH policies, ICHCAP has allowed the brochures to be printed and distributed in the countries.

Meanwhile, the two brochures were initially published as part of the “Kit on Intangible Cultural Heritage.’ They contain information about the close relationships between ICH and the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the values and roles of gender in communities in the context of ICH.
