UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, to emphasize the relevance of intangible cultural heritage in contemporary society and the importance of its intergenerational transmission, created a series of audiovisual stories on how young people engage with intangible cultural heritage. These clips were produced from interviews with participants of the tenth UNESCO Youth Forum (25–26 October 2017, UNESCO Headquarters, Paris). They can now be viewed on UNESCO’s social media channels: Facebook, Twitter

Hailing from Mexico to Samoa, from Guyana to Malaysia, these young practitioners share a common vision of the necessity and transformative power of intangible cultural heritage whilst articulating their personal stories. Intangible cultural heritage is rooted in the past but resonates and comes alive in the process of sharing. The young people featured in these videos showcase not only the rich variety of intangible cultural heritage but its potential to influence how we think and feel about ourselves and others.

The extended version of this video series were shown at the ‘Tell your #livingheritage story’ audio-visual exhibition during the seventh session of the General Assembly of the States Party to the 2003 Convention (UNESCO Headquarters, Paris, 4 – 6 June 2018).
