Heritage Alive Editorial Board Meeting--Windhoek

#Heritage Alive is an online journal published by the UNESCO-accredited ICH NGO Forum. It was officially launched after being approved at the eighth session of the Intergovernmental Committee in Baku, 2013. The editorial board, made up of six members, including Elvind Falk (Norwegian Crafts Institute [in Norwegian]), Ananya Bhattacharya (Banglanatak dot com, India), and Ki Leonce (Association for the Protection of Masks, Burkina Faso), held a meeting at the tenth session of the Intergovernmental Committee in 2015 to share information about their activities since the board’s establishment.

The objective of #Heritage Alive is to allow NGOs and experts in the ICH field opportunities to share their field experiences. It encourages contributors to share not just best practice case studies but also the challenges they face in the field. So far, six English articles have been published on topics like sustainable development and ICH safeguarding and oral tradition in Uganda. Each article is accompanied by a summary in French. The articles can be viewed on the #Heritage Alive section of theICH NGO Forum website. The journal also runs its own Facebook page to communicate with readers.

ICHCAP representatives met with members of the #Heritage Alive team at the sixth session of the General Assembly of the States Parties to the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage that was held in Paris last June. They discussed opportunities for cooperation, including sharing #Heritage Alive articles and activities on ICHCAP’s news channels, such as the ICH Courier Online. ICHCAP hopes to be able to share a wider range of information and news on intangible cultural heritage with its readers through a partnership with #Heritage Alive.
