APHEN-ICH Field School and Capacity Building Workshop to be held on 16-20 August 2021

Asia-Pacific Higher Education Network for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (APHEN-ICH; Secretariat Head, Choi, Gongho) will hold Field School and Capacity Building Workshop online from 16(Mon) to 20(Fri) August 2021. Under the theme of “APHEN-ICH Field School: Posthumanism and ICH”, the field school is attended by 30 master’s and doctoral students from 19 member-universities in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Field School which will be held for three days from August 16th to 18th, consists lectures and discussions by Choi, Gongho (Professor, Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage Studies, Korea National University of Cultural Heritage(KNUCH), Secretariat Head of APHEN-ICH), Kim, Hyeon (Professor, Department of Cultural Informatics, The Academy of Korean Studies), Furusawa, Takuro (Professor at the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies (ASAFAS), Kyoto University), Lim, Jaehae (Professor Emeritus, Department of Folklore, Andong National University), YI-JinKyung (Professor, School of Liberal Arts, Seoul National University of Science and Technology).

The Capacity Building Workshop from August 19th to 20th will be held under the theme of “Development of a joint curriculum for the higher education in ICH” with the participations of 19 member-universities. Duong Bich Hanh (Chief of Culture Unit UNESCO Office in Bangkok), Jeong, Eunwoo (Professor Emeritus, Department of Archeology and Art History, Dong-A university) and Eric B. Zerrudo (Professor, University of Santo Tomas) will be presenting and do discussing on the topic.

The Field School will be the first academic event in Korea to deal with the Post Humans, which have emerged as a task of the times, related to Intangible Heritage, and the workshop will be a meaningful platform to form a joint curriculum for the Intangible Heritage required in tertiary education.

APENH-ICH was launched in September 2018 to establish a cooperative system for higher education of Intangible Heritage in the Asia- Pacific region under the Cooperation of the International Information & Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region under the Auspices of UNESCO, ICHCAP and UNESCO Bangkok Office. Currently, 19 Universities from 13 countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, Beijing Normal University, China, Kyoto University, Japan are participating actively. Among them, the Korea National University of Cultural Heritage was elected as the first secretariat and has been working actively.
