The Cheongju-Vietnam International Exchange Exhibition will be held at the Korean Craft Museum in Cheongju from 4 to 16 September 2018. Dubbed as Cheongju Meets Vietnam, the exhibition will host traditional craftsmen and display about thirty Vietnamese crafts in Exhibition Hall 1 in Hue City, Vietnam.

The city of Hue, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserves its traditional culture as the capital of Vietnam’s last dynasty. The exhibition is organized to invite artists in Hue for various events and raise awareness of cultural diversity by connecting Hue and Cheongju, a beautiful inland city of Korea. By doing so, it will help promote friendly and cooperative relations with Vietnam.

Vietnam is home to some of the richest craft heritage in Asia. Crafts are an integral part of public life in Vietnam as it houses 2,000 craft villages. Cheongju aspires to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network through its abundant craft heritage. Through the exhibition, it seeks to become a cultural city of international cooperation and tolerance.

In February 2018, the organizing committee of Cheongju Craft Biennale Organizational Committee and ICHCAP signed a Memorandum of Understanding, laying the foundation for close cooperation to promote intangible cultural heritage in the Asia-Pacific region. The International Exchange Exhibition will be held as part of such cooperative activities. Cheongju plans to participate in an international NGO conference scheduled for November in Hue to share its experience in crafts promotion and hold an exchange exhibition on Korean crafts during the conference.
