ICHCAP

ICHCAP established the Asia-Pacific Education Network for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (APHEN-ICH) in September 2018 with higher education institutions that train professionals as strategic partners for implementing the 2003 Convention.
APHEN-ICH nominated Korea National University of Cultural Heritage as the network secretariat at its first network meeting last year in which nineteen universities and institutions from eleven countries participated. In addition, APHEN-ICH of fifteen member institutions nominated bureau members as indicated below to develop the network project and help ensure its smooth implementation.

Bureau members will host their first bureau meeting in the Republic of Korea in May 2019 to discuss joint projects such as an academic seminar, conference, curriculum development, and research to promote sustainable exchanges among Network members and enhance their research capacities.

In relation to ICH and higher education, the following ICHCAP activities have uncovered key issues in integrating ICH in higher education: the 2017 survey of higher education institutions in the Asia-Pacific region in cooperation with UNESCO Bangkok Office and the roundtable side event entitled “Intangible Cultural Heritage and Tertiary Education” at the Twelfth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in December 2017. ICHCAP will continue to support a variety of projects to invigorate ICH research through this Network.
